Abstract

374,127. Vacuum closures for boxes and cans. BARRINGER, WALLIS, & MANNERS, Ltd. and MANNERS, R., Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. March 5, 1931, Nos. 6820, 8804, 13334, and 19638. [Classes 18, 66, and 125 (iii).] A box, can, &c., comprises a body portion 1 and a lid 3 with a sealing ring 5 interposed between them. The body portion has an inturned flange 8 and the lid a depending wall 10 which is inturned at the lower edge 11 to co-operate with the body in forming an airtight joint. The wall 10 is flush with the body of the box, and the flange 8 has a vertical wall 9 at the inner edge thereof, which engages with the part 11 of the lid. A groove 12 is provided at the lower end of the wall 9 which accommodates the part 11 when the sealing band has been removed. The lid may be hinged to the body of the box, the interengaging parts of the hinge being integral with or attached to the lid and body. The box may be provided with a liner 18, the upper portion of which projects from the body and replaces the wall 9. In a modification the neck of the body is not integral therewith, but is attached thereto. The box may have fixed or removable partitions, and the lid may be embossed or recessed.
