Abstract

409,785. Airtight tins for tobacco and the like. BARRINGER, WALLIS, & MANNERS, Ltd., Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Nov. 15, 1932, No. 32257. [Classes 18 and 125 (iii).] Relates to air tight tins of the type described in Specification 374,127, having a flange at the lower edge of the lid and a cooperating shoulder on the body with an interposed gasket. According to the invention the co-operating flanges 14, 17 are curved or sloping and are inturned from the body and cover respectively. The wall 15 serves as a spigot for the flange 16 and the flange 14 slopes downwards as shown in Fig. 2. The wall 15 may be integral with the flange 14 or may be formed by a separate liner. The tin may be of substantially rectangular form with curved or bowed sides. Alternatively the tin may be of polygonal form with rounded corners. The flange 16 may be doubled as shown, and corresponding in shape to the flange 14. The doubled flange 16 is formed by expanding a short wall or rim on the inturned flange of the lid.
