Screwing; die-heads.-In a screwing-machine for cutting taper or parallel threads the die-head 9 is mounted on a carriage 4 movable along a bed 3 by means of a hand wheel 5, an idle pinion 6, a spur wheel 7 and a rack 8, the work being rotated. The discs 10a, which are tangential to the work, are adjusted by a cam plate 11 rotatable through worm teeth 12 and a worm 13 carried by a hollow shaft 14 rotatably mounted on the carriage 4. The shaft 14 carries a friction clutch member 19 which may be made to engage a member 18 secured to a shaft 17, passing through the shaft 14, by means of a nut 14a coacting with a hand wheel 16 on the shaft 14. A chain 21 connects a sprocket 20 on the clutch member 18 to a sprocket 22 carrying a pinion 24 engaging a fixed rack 25, the arrangement being such that as the dies travel along the work the pinion 24 rotates the worm 13 and progressively varies the pass between the dies, the inclination of the taper being adjusted by changing the chain sprockets. For cutting parallel threads the friction clutch 18, 19 is disengaged and the dies adjusted by the hand wheel 16.
