Abstract

156,045. Cole, W. L. May 17, 1920. Sawing-machine tables and fences.-In saw benches of the class described in Specification 10669/11, the fence 28 is moved across the bench by means of screwed shafts 22 connected by bevel-gearing 21, 25 and actuated by a handwheel 26. This moves the backbone 13 which carries the fence 28 transversely across the auxiliary table 3, which is pivoted at one end above the main frame 1 and raised at the other end by a rack 59, pinion 58, and hand-operated worm drive 53,56. To adjust the fence for parallelism, either of the connections 22 may be loosened. The feed-chain 18 is driven bv a sprocket-wheel 35 driven by worm ,gearing 32, 16 from a short shaft 10 carrying a three-speed pulley 12 connected to a pulley 8 on the countershaft 5. The worm wheel 32 and sprocket wheel 35 are driven through friction members 29, 30, 31 adjustable by handwheels 33, 36 so that a certain amount of slip can be allowed in the feed. Gap plates 38, 39 in the table 3 carry wood blocks for steadying the saw; extra blocks 48 may be arranged as shown, with hemp packing 50.
