934,884. Gear shaving. H. HURTH, and F. HURTH. Nov. 11, 1960, No. 38770/60. Class 83 (3). A gear shaving machine comprises a worktable tiltable by a rotary cam for crowning the gears. The machine includes a circular table 11 rotatably adjustable on a frame 10, a carriage 12 slidable on the table, a plate 13 rotatably adjustable on the carriage, a tiltable table 15 pivoted at 14 on plate 13, a plate 15a rotatably adjustable on table 15, centres 17, 18, for holding workpiece 16, and a shaving cutter 20. The direction of longitudinal feed may be in direction 60 or 61, and the feed drive is supplied through a shaft 21, bevel gears 22, 23, spur gears 24, 25, clutch 26a, and screw and nut 26, 27. Cam 40 for tilting table 15 is rotated by a gear 28, bevel gears 29, 30, 32, 33, 35, interchangeable gears 37, 38, and cam shaft 39. An adjustable wedge 41, Fig. 4, is placed between cam 40 and table 15, or the wedge may be replaced by a roller adjustable by means of an eccentric sleeve. The cam may be made of several elements 52-54, Figs. 7, 8, adjustable relative to each other. In a modification, the cam 40, Fig. 3, acts on a lever 43 carried by a screw 49 adjustable by a worm and wheel 50, 51, and a roller 46 is adjustable along lever 43 to vary the amplitude of the tilting of table 15. The transmission from cam 40 to table 15 may be effected by mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical servo control systems. If the crowning is produced without any longitudinal feed, clutch 26a is disengaged and a cam disc 56, Figs. 5, 6, is attached to cam shaft 39. Adjustable cams 57 are screwed on to the disc which actuate switches 58, 59, to reverse the direction of the drive.
