Abstract

1,087,708. Gear-Shaving. J. A. MILLS. Aug. 16, 1966 [Sept. 2, 1965], No. 37576/65. Headings B3B and B3K. A gear-shaving machine comprises a table 15 traversible on a knee 14 to traverse a gear beneath an overhead cutter (13), the table being carried by a beam 19 which is slidable on an upper horizontal surface of the knee and which is coupled by a pin 21 to a universally adjustable feed slide 24 in the knee. Furthermore, a bridge 35 extending longitudinally of the knee straddles the beam, there being connections 39, 36 between the bridge and beam and the bridge and the knee to constrain the beam and table to move always in a direction aligned with the feed slide. The slide 24 is fed by a screw 26 rotated by a motor (34) through gearing 32 in a turntable 28 adjusted by a worm 31 as described in Specification 943,478. The table 15 can be rocked about trunnions 18, by which it is mounted on the beam 19, by an angularly adjustable block (46) co-operating with a follower (44) mounted on the knee. The follower (44) may be adjusted to an off-set position to produce tapered gears.
