Abstract

981,900. Gear-finishing. F. HURTH, and H. HURTH. Nov. 16, 1962 [April 13, 1962], No. 43391/62. Heading B3K. A machine for shaving crowned and conical gears comprises an angularly-adjustable feed slide 12, carrying a tilting table 15 controlled by guide cam 24, Fig. 4, which is angularly adjustable independently of the slide and is also adjustable at right angles to the direction of feed. The slide 12 is fed by a screw 31 mounted in an angularly adjustable support 11, the machine being similar to that described in Specification 931,607. The slide 12 carries a roller 23 freely mounted on a spindle 35. The roller engages the guide 24 which is adjustable angularly by a powered worm 41 on a threaded post 43 adjustable vertically by gearing 48, 47, 45 rotated by a motor. (In a modification, the roller 23 is vertically-adjustable instead of the post 43). The post 43 can be moved vertically by dogs 130, 131, Fig. 3, on the slide which act through a lever 123, a bell-crank 122, an adjustable pin 119, a slide 116, a pin 114 and a bushing 110. The movements are limited by micrometer means 139a, 139b, engaging a pin 117. Thus, teeth of a long gear may be crowned only at the ends under the control of the dogs 130, 131. In modifications, the transmission of the movement of the dogs 130, 131 may be through hydraulic or electrical means and may adjust the worm 41 or the nut 45 instead of the bushing 110, or may adjust a screw engaging the bushing 110 or may rotate the post within its nut. Alternatively, the bushing 110 may be an hydraulic piston or the guide 24 may be moved by hydraulic means.
