975,878. Milling. W. MOELTZNER. June 12,1963 [June 12, 1962],No. 23453/63. Heading B3K. A mechanism for machining the ends of screws or bolts comprises a workpiece receiving table 1 concentrically rotatable about the axis of a rotatable forming cutter 2. The workpieces 5 are located between taper rollers 7, mounted on a carriage 6 formed as a ring integral with the table 1, and a stationary but adjustable annular friction ring 8. As the table 1 rotates, the workpieces 5 are rotated about their axes between the rollers 7 and the ring 8. The workpieces 5 are fed radially to the cutter 2 by means of a feed cam 9 carried by an internally threaded ring 14 which is axially movable on a sleeve 10 rotatably mounted on the frame 3. External threads on the sleeve engage the ring 14. Gear teeth 12 on the sleeve engage pinions 27 to facilitate setting and adjustment of the feed cam 9 which effects the feeding of the workpieces by way of the rack and pinion angle drive 17. Adjustment of the depth of feed may be effected manually by the hand wheel 28 connected to pinion 27 whilst the mechanism is in operation.
