Abstract

1331230 Portable turning machines DOXFORD & SUNDERLAND Ltd C A MOORE A E R ADDISON and R CHAPMAN 18 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 61768/69 Heading B3T A portable turning machine which is mountable on a shaft to be machined comprises two split rings 1 and 2 which are locatable around the shaft and which have adjustable shoes or rollers 3 for centering and guiding the rings for rotation about the shaft axis, stay members 6 being provided to maintain the rings in axially spaced relationship and a guide rail 6a located between the rings and parallel to the shaft axis supports a tool holder 7 which is traversable by a lead screw 8 mounted on the rings. The ring assembly is rotated on the shaft by a pneumatic motor 14 with a belt drive to one of the rings, the motor being mounted on a bracket 12, non- rotatably secured to the shaft. A steady ring 10 may be provided between the rings 1 and 2 and which is secured to the tool holder 7 and traversable therewith. A trip member 18 secured to the shaft by a bracket 19 is engageable with a star wheel 16 on the lead screw to provide incremented traverse of the tool holder, and when used, the steady ring as the assembly is rotated by the motor. It is stated that one of the stays 6 may be used as a guide rail for the tool holder.
