958,666. Machine tool details; grinding. VEREINIGTE WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIKEN A.G. July 19, 1960 [Aug. 29, 1959], No. 25083/60. Headings B3B, B3D and B3L. In a machine tool, means for adjusting the stroke of a reciprocating part comprises a stepless adjustable control member which carries at least one switch 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, and means 9 moving synchronously with the part to actuate the switch. A shaft 1 is rotated from the table drive of a planing machine and rotates a shaft 8 through a friction disc 4 and a bolt 6, to allow for setting the control means to zero. The shaft 8 carries the disc 9 bearing a dog 10 operating the switches 12, 12<SP>1</SP>. The switches are mounted on discs 11, 11<SP>1</SP> adjustable angularly by knobs 20, 20<SP>1</SP>, scales 21, 21<SP>1</SP> and gears 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, or through remote control by potentiometers. The switches control reversing of the table, tool relief, clamping and copying motions. In a modification, adjustment of the stroke is by press-keys VE, RE, Fig. 5, for rough stage adjustment and a fine adjustment between stages by knobs 25, 25<SP>1</SP> acting through reducing gearing, the switch-carrying discs then having, say, nine switches thereon, one for each stage. Each press-key energizes a particular switch to effect the reversal and also the following switches as a safety precaution to prevent over-running. A diagram 27 of the work assists in setting the keys. Rotary selectors may replace the press keys. The strokeadjusting means may also be used in grinding, milling and paper or textile treating machines. In a further modification, the disc 9 is replaced by a disc carrying the switches and the dogs are carried by the discs 11, 11<SP>1</SP>.
