Abstract
263,889. Birmingham Small Arms Co., Ltd., and Norman, G. July 9, 1925. Breech actions. sliding breech-block.-A safety device, adapted to lock the firing mechanism and the breech-bolt of an automatic gun of the type having a fixed barrel and a rotary reciprocating breech-bolt, is arranged so that it can be readily operated by the shooter's forefinger when the gun is gripped ready for firing. As shown, the safety device comprises a rotatable bar 1 having an operating-lever 15 at the rear and having its front end formed with a cut-away part 13 and with gaps 11, 14. In the safety position, the front end engages a notch 9, Fig. 3, in the breech-bolt and the narrow gap 11 engages a projection 12, Fig. 7, on the sear 8. A turning movement of the bar brings the cut-away part 13 and the wide gap 14 into the paths of the breech-bolt and sear respectively, thus allowing movement of these parts. The operating-lever 15 is arranged in a slot at the right-hand side of the body in a position to be reached by the forefinger.
