Abstract
180,487. B.S.A. Guns, Ltd., and Norman, G. March 29, 1921. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to guns having a vertically-sliding breech-block operated by an under lever having a cross-pin engaging an horizontal slot in the breech-block. According to the invention, (a) the cross-pin 6 is carried by a pair of lugs 3 on the lever 4, and besides passing through a slot 5 in the breechblock 1 is also adapted to cock the firing-pin 9 by engaging a cam 15 thereon, and (b) the breechblock and cocking-lever are so constructed that an additional movement for positive extraction is possible. In the construction shown, a spring 29 is interposed between the extractor lever 28 and the end 27 of the operating-lever for the purpose of extracting and ejecting the cartridge case. The slot 5 in the breech-block is formed at the front and back with inclined parts 5<a>, 5<b>, Fig. 4, which allow independent initial and final movements of the operating-lever for the purpose of effecting respectively an initial retraction of the firing-pin and a positive actuation of the extractor if the spring 29 should prove insufficient.
