Pumping machines and apparatus-The main centrifugal pump c of a waterworks plant is driven by a turbine a through gearing b and cooperates with a vertically arranged feeder pump e at a low level. The pump e is driven from the main pump shaft through bevel gearing d and its discharge passes through the pipe f to the condenser g, thence through the pipe h to the pump c. An extension f<1> rises from the bend of the pipe f to form a support and contains a stuffing box and bearing for the pump e. The feeder pump may deliver into an intermediate tank from which the main pump can draw.
