Abstract
356,019. Rotary pumps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP OCTROOI MAATSCHAPPIJ HERMES (formerly NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP ALGEMEERE PATENT EXPLOITATIE MAATSCHAPPIJ), 738, Keizergracht, Amsterdam. Oct. 23, 1930, No. 31928. Convention date, Feb. 5. [Class 110 (i).] A rotary pump 1 and its driving motor 2 are combined with a casing 3 to form a buoyant combination. The pump 1 and the float 3 are held together by means of flanges 4, 5 and clamping ring 6, and the motor is disposed in the hollow float which is not necessarily airtight. The motor shaft 10 passes through the stuffing box 11 and carries the impeller 12 which is made in two parts ; the upper part comprises the spiral scoops, and the lower part comprises a feeder with helical scoops 14. The pump inlet is protected by a strainer 18. In the modified form shown in Fig. 6, the base of the float 3 is provided with apertures 21 for the admission of water, and a sheath 22 protects the motor 2. The upper part of the float 3 in this modification is airtight. In the form illustrated, a centrifugal pump is employed but other types of pumps for example, piston pumps or pinion pumps, may be used.
