Jib cranes. - To ensure horizontal movement of the load in luffing, the load rope 6 passes from the hoisting drum 7 around a guide pulley 8 at the jib foot, compensating pulleys 5, and thence to the jib head. The pulleys 5 are carried by radial arms 1, one of which is pivoted at the jib foot and moves with the jib, the other being moved simultaneously about its pivot 3 by connecting gear such as 10, 11. The pulleys 5 approach or recede from one another through a distance equal to one-fourth of the vertical travel of the jib head, and the load rope is passed twice over each pulley. The jib is luffed bv a motor 14 driving an eccentric or crank disc 13 connected with one of the toothed sectors 11 by a link 12. The jib is balanced by weights 15 moving at the sides of the superstructure.
