Jib cranes.-Luffing mechanism in which the power is transmitted to the jib without the use of ropes and the movements of the jib are continually reversed if the power be left on comprises a rotating crank K which rocks a lever G pivoted on the frame at H, the ends of the lever being connected by links E, M to the jib at D and to an arm N pivoted on the frame at O. A counterweight is carried by the lever G or is suspended from the pin N<1> at the end of the arm N. The lengths BD, DF, FH, HB are preferably equal and may be one-quarter the length of the jib. The lengths HH', ON' are preferably equal and one-half the length FH. The hoisting rope is reeved from the winding drum over pulleys at R, F, A', F, and A', and the path of the load is substantially horizontal during luffing.
