Abstract

272,286. Wright, W. E. March 9, 1926. Jib-cranes.-Relates to level luffing gear of the type in which the load rope c passes over a compensating pulley on a pivoted lever. The lever a is pivoted at a<1> and carries two or more pulleys j, j<1> so arranged that when the jib is at minimum radius, Fig. 2, only one pulley j<1> engages the load-rope, and as the jib swings out, Fig. 1, the other pulley j comes into engagement. The lever a may carry a series of pulleys arranged along an arc of a circle. The jib is luffed by a crank p and mechanism o, a<2>, m, and the compensating lever a is operated from the luffing lever a<2> by a link s. The luffing lever a<2> carries a counterweight k. In a modification, the links s, o are connected with the same arm of the lever a<2>. The Provisional Specification describes modifications with the compensating lever operated by a flexible connection or pivoted on the jib or on the luffing-mechanism, with two or more falls of rope, with a cam or pins in place of pulleys for deflecting the rope, and with the compensating lever replaced by a toothed segment which drives a drum for winding the dead end of the load rope as the segment oscillates during luffing.
