Abstract

190,594. Westwood, E. W., und Westwood, W. H. Nov. 1, 1921. Jib cranes.-In portable cranes of the kind in which the load and jib are counterbalanced by a movable weight which is actuated by the tension of the luffing rope, the luffing rope K is passed from the winding drum J over a sheave L on a shaft M, round a sheave H supported by the jib tie rods G, and over a sheave L<1> on the shaft M, to the drum 0 mounted on a shaft T carrying, gears S, S<1> which engage racks R, R<1> attached to a weight P mounted on rollers Q. A spring U anchored to the platform B and connected to a drum U' on the shaft T controls the movement of the weight. In a modification a hydraulic ram pump actuated by the luffing rope actuates, controls and returns the weight. In a further modification the weight is moved in one direction by levers actuated by the luffing rope and returned by a spring.
