Abstract

351,463. Grab machines ; scoop-arm machines. DEMAG AKT.-GES., Duisburg, Germany. March 22, 1930, No. 9276. Convention date, March 23, 1929. [Class 68 (i).] To convert a scoop-arm machine into a grab machine, the jib and shovel of the scoop-arm machine is replaced by a jib for a grab machine with means whereby on raising the jib the grab moves in a substantially horizontal path. The scoop-arm machine, Fig. 1, has a jib 5 raised by means of a drum 15 and rope 16, a shovel 12 with racking means driven from a member 7, and shovel hoisting means comprising a drum 8 and rope 9. To convert the machine, the jib 5 is replaced by a jib 25, Fig. 2, with a pivoted top jib 27 pivotally connected to a member 26 pivoted to the machine frame; the drive member 7 is transferred to the jib 25 and acts through a drum 31 and rope 32 passing over pulleys 33, 17, to raise or lower the jib 25, while the drum 8 and rope 9 raise or lower the grab, the arrangement being such that on raising or lowering the jib while the drum 8 is stationary, the grab moves in a substantially horizontal path 34. The driving means for the drum 8 may also operate the running gear &c. In a modification, the jib 25 is such that its apex moves horizontally during luffing.
