Abstract

586,401. Machines for making ropes &c. LARMUTH, A., and LARMUTH, L. J. Dec. 13, 1944, No. 24988. [Class 109] A wire stranding, rope or cable making machine having a rotatable tubular frame 8 with openings 14 in its walls, is provided with a track 9 below its frame and means for raising or lowering the bobbins 4 into or out of position. The bobbin 4 is rolled along the track 9 and is located in position by stops 10, in the form of slots ; above transverse members 12 connected together by a plate 13, the track having slots 11 to allow the transverse members 12 to pass therethrough. A hydraulic or like jack 15 is positioned below the plate 13 to impart an upward movement to the transverse members which lift the bobbin into its cradle 7. In addition, a track portion 18 may be provided at right angles to the main track 9 to enable a bobbin to be speedily inserted or removed, the transverse members being rotatably mounted in order to position the bobbin. A jack and transverse members may be situated beneath each bobbin position or one jack or jack provided with transverse members may traverse the length of the track and operate beneath each position. An automatic switch 17 is integral with the jack to prevent the operation of the machine when the lifting mechanism is in use.
