Abstract

618,350. Machines for making ropes. LARMUTH, J. H. Oct. 24, 1946, No. 31546. [Class 109] . A bobbin-hoisting mechanism for a stranding machine comprises a pair of rigid bars extending along each side of the machine having attached thereto at spaced intervals flexible hoisting members or chains attached in pairs to vertically guided supports adapted to be connected to platforms for raising and lowering the bobbins. The rigid bars 2, Figs. 1 and 4, which slide upon horizontal rails 1 on each side of the stranding machine, are of inverted channel section containing a series of chains 11, Fig. 1, connected at spaced intervals to the bars and passing over sprocket wheels 10. At their lower ends, the chains are connected to blocks 12 capable of sliding vertically in channel-section uprights 4. The blocks are detachably connected in opposite pairs to supports 16,Fig. 4, which carry bobbin platforms 23 for lifting the bobbins into cradles 3 of the rotary stranding member 25,. The supports 16 are connected to or disconnected from the blocks 12 by pairs of pivoted hooks 18 operated by bars 20 to engage or disengage projections 15 carried by the blocks. The bars 2 are actuated simultaneously by an electric motor 27 adapted to rotate a shaft 30 which drives sprocket wheels 34 engaging chains 35 connected to the bars. Alternatively the chains 35 may be operated by a hydraulic ram. Specifications 502,433 and 549,027 are referred to.
