Abstract

1418242 Lifting frames PANTEX-STAHL AG 14 March 1974 [26 July 1973] 11361/74 Heading B8H A grab device comprises a main frame 1 which is suspended from the movable carriage of a crane (not shown) by means of a pair of yokes 5 (only one of which is shown), a pair of telescopic guides 20 (only one shown) being connected between the main frame 1 and the crane carriage to ensure that the frame 1 remains horizontal during winding or unwinding of the cable connected to the yokes 5, the device further comprising three pairs of grab arms 7 (only one pair being shown) mounted on the frame 1 for inward and outward pivotal movement by means of hydraulic rams 13, and a further frame 26 is mounted on the frame 1 and its vertical position relative thereto is adjustable by means of an hydraulic ram 24, guide rods 31 on the frame 26 moving in bushes 32 on the main frame 1 during such adjustment, and a rod 35<SP>1</SP> on which there is an electrical contact 36 projects upwards from the frame 26 so that when the frame 26 is lowered relative to the frame 1 the contact 36 passes by and touches a series of contacts 38 on a rod 37 fixed to the frame 1 such that by actuating a switch associated with a particular contact 38 the actuation of the ram 24 is stopped during the descent of the frame 26 when the contact 36 touches the particular contact 38, thus fixing the frame 26 in position relative to the main frame 1. The arms 7 are then moved to their positions shown as 7<SP>1</SP> and the frame 1 is lowered until the frame 26 comes to rest on top of a stock pile of packages 34 to be lifted. The number of packages lifted by the grab device depends on the position of the frame 26 relative to the main frame 1. The control members (not shown) of the grab device and crane are arranged together so as to be operable by the crane operator.
