Abstract
1,199,491. Endless conveyers for wire bobbins. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd. 5 April, 1968 [7 April, 1967], No. 15993/67. Heading B8A. [Also in Division D1] A conveyer system is used to feed full bobbins to, and empty bobbins from, the loading station 11 of a wire-stranding machine. If the conveyer runs below the central axis of the machine, the bobbins are raised and lowered into and out of the machine by one, or a pair of, pneumatic rams 16 operating through spaces in the conveyers. If, as shown, the conveyer runs alongside the machine, a bridging conveyer 12 which is capable of sideways movement is provided to move full and empty bobbins into and out of the loading station 11. The bridging conveyer may return the empty bobbins to the main conveyer or to a second conveyer. In a first embodiment the bridging conveyer moves sideways from the main conveyer 10, unloads the bobbin from the machine. It returns to the conveyer 10 to pick up a full bobbin and simultaneously unload the empty bobbin, then moves back to the loading station with the full bobbin to load the machine. In a second embodiment the bridging conveyer is first loaded with full bobbins from conveyer 10, moved sideways into the loading station 11, receives a further (empty) bobbin from the machine, and then moves forward to bring a full bobbin into the loading station and load the machine. The remaining empty bobbins of that part of the machine are then replaced similarly, and the bridging conveyer is moved away. As illustrated in Fig. 3, the bridging conveyer moves sideway on rollers 27, 28 under the action of pneumatic cylinder 32. The endless chains of conveyer 12 can be moved by motor 23 which may be mounted on the conveyer. The bobbins may be moved up and down by the rams at an angle of 30 degrees to the vertical. Two or more loading stations may be serviced simultaneously. The empty bobbins are returned for rewinding by an extension of conveyer 10 which runs in a loop around the end of the machine.
