Abstract
262,068. National Spun Silk Co., (Assignees of Frieder, L. P., Huntley, P. S., and Hollas, J. W.). Nov. 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Rollers and roller heads.-Apparatus for drawing and spinning long or short or ,both long and short fibres, and, as shown, designed particularly for silk or other yarn of fine fibres, comprises an adjustable curved surface 21 arranged between drawing rollers 15, 12, and 16, 17, break dhaft devices, such as rollers 23, 24, which serve to smooth down loose fibres, being arranged between the lower pair of drawing-rollers and the lower edge of the plate. The rollers 15, 16 are fluted, the roller 17 may be of metal, rubber, or rubber composition or may be rubber covered, and the roller 23 may be fluted and the roller 24 is of wood or other material. The roller 23 is driven at a slightly greater speed than that of the roller 15 but much less than that of the roller 16, to allow the light contact roller 24 to smooth down loose fibres; these rollers have no drawing action. The roller 17 is carried by a hook 38 pivoted at 40 to an adjustably weighted lever 41, which may be manually moved to release the roller 17 by means of a spring-controlled lever 47 adapted to hold it in its inoperative position. The roller 24 is of light weight and rests on a support 25 so that rotative and bodily movement is permitted. The roller 23 is cleared by means of plush or like covered bars 53 engaged by extensions 54 on the books 38, and the rollers 16, 23 are cleared by means of a plush or like covered cylinders 65 which are mounted on a squared rod carried by a weighted lever so that they may be adjusted to expose a fresh working surface by moving the rod in its supporting notch. Auxiliary frames 71 which carrv the mechanism on each side of the machine are connected by a stay rod 70.
