Abstract

261,642. Alexander, W. June 17, 1926. Density separators.-A steam separator of the vortex type has a number of convergent admission openings 5 between fixed vanes extending between an extension 6 of the wall 11 of the separating chamber 9, and the side 7 of an end plate 20. The vanes may be flat or curved and may have varying thickness. An outlet 13 is provided for the separated water and the chamber 9 may be of slight conical form as shown, or it may be cylindrical. A form suitable for connection in a steam main is shown in Fig. 1, the inlet 3 and outlet 4 being coaxial and at opposite ends of the separator. The form shown in Fig. 2 is suitable for connection inside the boiler 19 and the inlet and outlet are arranged at the same end. A bell mouth lip 21 diverts any liquid that drips downwards. A modified form suitable for an evaporator has the inlet and water outlet at one end, and the steam outlet at the other end. In each case the inner side of the end plate 20 is flat or convex.
