[Class 23.] Density separators.-A separator of the cyclone type for separating dust from gases has a passage a for the flow of the gases, the passage being divided by a partition b<4>; the inner ends of the walls b, b<1> and the partition b<4> terminate on a cylindrical surface concentric with the outlet tube. The dust is thrown out and drops into the hopper s while the clean gas passes through the outlet f. A defector plate c is pivoted to the wall of the passage at d or to the partition b<4> at d<1>, and can be moved to close one part of the passage to the gas or to permit the use of the whole of the passage. A transverse partition may be added to divide the passage into four parts; the plate c is then also divided.
