Abstract

445,245. Centrifugal gas - cleaners. SKAJAA, T., Kristiansands, Norway. Oct. 8, 1935, Nos. 27741 and 27742. Convention dates, Oct. 8, 1934, and June 19, 1935. [Class 23] A separator in which dust or the like is separated from whirling gas or vapour is provided with means at the gas outlet or dust outlet or both to prevent suctional return flow of gas or vapour into the separator. The arrangement may be applied to a single separator vessel, or to a number of such vessels, each consisting of a cylindrical tube 4, combined in one apparatus as shown in the Figure. The gas outlet tubes 7 are arranged at one end to communicate with the main outlet 2, and the annular space between each separator 4 and its tube 7 contains vanes 5 to rotate the gases. The dust laden gas passes from the inlet A past the vanes 5 into the tubes 4 and the dust is thrown to the walls while the clean gas passes through outlet 7. A circular plate 8 on a rod 9 is mounted in proximity to the flared end of each outlet 7, the plate being adjustable in position so that the free discharge opening can be varied. The plate prevents any inward flow of clean gas. A similar adjustable plate 11 is placed at the opposite end of each tube 4. The diameter of the plate 11 is slightly less than that of the tube so that a small annular dust outlet is formed and the dust drops into the hopper 3. An outlet D at the top of the hopper permits the escape of the gas passing through the dust outlet. A slight suction may be applied at the outlet D to mamtain a pressure difference between the tubes 4 and the hopper 3. The plates 11 can be used to remove any dust particles from the walls of the separators and any plate 11 can be moved co the end of its associated tube 7 to cut out a particular separator. Each plate 8 may be slightly convex, or have bent edges, or may be fitted with a spiral whirl chamber to assist in the change of the gas velocity into pressure.
