525,669. Centrifugal separators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 25, 1939, No. 6278. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1938. [Class 23] [Also in Group XXVI] Liquid particles are separated from a stream of gas or vapour, as for instance a stream passing from the high pressure turbine 10 to the low pressure turbine 14. by means of a deflecting wall 24 the rim of which penetrates a channel 27 arranged in the connecting conduit 16 between the two machines. The wall 24 is substantially conical and its surface is formed by the revolution of a curved line about an axis. An edge 29 of the channel 27 is secured to the rear surface of the wall, and the parts are supported by brackets 31. Liquid particles in the gas stream impinge on the wall 24 and pass to the channel 27 from which they fall through the conduit 30 to the vessel 21. This vessel has a discharge pipe 22 controlled by a valve 23 which may be operated manually, or automatically, by a float. In a modification a number of deflecting walls 24 may be employed and may be arranged in series or in parallel. Specification 488,055, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
