Abstract

380,099. Washing gases. GIBBS, W. E., 29, Alleyn Park, London. March 27, 1931, No. 9307. [Class 55 (ii).] Solid and liquid particles are removed from gases during washing by passage at high speed through short sinuous paths in a pervious wall acutely inclined to the direction of flow. Louvres 2 forming the sinuous paths are arranged in a V-shaped filter in the gas passage 1, and sprays 6 are placed in front. The speed of the gas may be 2000 feet per minute, and the liquid sprayed may be such as to wet oily particles of coal tar &c. Perforated plates, slightly separated from each other and inclined to the direction of flow, may be arranged with the perforation in staggered relationship so as to form the sinuous paths.
