380,764. Treating gases with liquids. LAURENT, E., 2, Rue AbbÚ Lemire, La Madeleine-Lez-Lille, France. May 24, 1932, No. 14708. Convention date, May 28, 1931. [Claas 55 (ii).] In washing dust or smoke from gases, or separating two gases by solution, the gases are passed through an expansion chamber 2 containing obstacles such as hanging chains 3 for the separation of coarse dust, and then through a chamber 6 containing parallel discs 8 of wire gauze rotated with their lower halves in a liquid so that the upper halves carry liquid films through which the gases are drawn axially by a fan. The gases pass finally through a chamber with louvres 17 to separate liquid particles. Each disc comprises a pair of closely spaced parallel grids or perforated plates and is cleaned by fixed or rotary brushes 16. Adjacent discs are rotated in opposite directions, and the top edge of each projects into a gutter 15 forming with liquid on the disc a hydraulic joint.
