Abstract

Driving auxiliary parfs or external machines.-In an auxiliary casing 9 attached to the main gear-box 1 motion is transmitted from the main driving-shaft 6 to a shaft 18 driving an auxiliary machine through one or more gear-wheels 15 intermediate the driving and driven gearwheels 14, 17. The shaft 18 is actuated from the gear-wheel 17 through a handoperated clutch 21 and may carry a pulley driving a fan, pump, dynamo or other machine. The casing 9 comprises a plate 3, a flanged or hollowed part 10. and a cover or covers 11, 12, all bolted together. The central part 10 may be formed in one with either of the other parts 3, 11. The plate 3 is bolted to the engine end of the gear-box 1 after the usual cover plate of the bearing 2 has been removed, and both plates 3, 11 are formed with lugs which rest on the sub-frame supporting the gear-box. Lubricant from the gear-box passes into the auxiliary casing.
