Tcothed gearing.-In toothed reduction gearing for driving machinery from electromotors, turbines &c., two gearing sets are arranged between aligned driving and driven shafts 1, 11, each set comprising gearing on two or more shafts, all shafts lying in the same plane. As shown, each set comprises two shafts 3, 8 carried in roller bearings, the pinion 2 on the driving-shaft 1 being geared to the wheel 23 on the driven shaft 11 by helical gearing 19 - - 22. To equalize the stresses in the two sets, an intermediate wheel of each set may be flexible, as described in Specification 210,722. The shafts are supported partly in the base of a casing and partly in its removable cover, and additional bearings may be provided for the ends of the shafts 1, 11.
