Abstract

238,595. Hetherington & Sons, Ltd., J., and Barke, J. G. May 16, 1924. Reversing-gearing.-In a reversing-gear for the cylinder of a carding-engine, whereby the cylinder may be driven in the normal direction during carding and in the reverse direction during grinding, the driving, pulley 3, Fig. 1, is loose on the shaft 1 and carries a gear 5. A gear 6 is keyed to the shaft 1 and may be connected to the gear 5 either through two equal gears 9 or through a train of gears 10, 12, 13, 11. These gears are carried in a pivoted casing movable by a rod so that either set of gears may be moved into engagement with the gears 5, 6. The driving-pulley 3 may carry a gear 14 and a clutch part, Fig. 3, and the gear 15 be loose on the shaft and associated with a second clutch part, a central double clutch part 16 being mounted on the shaft 1 so that it can be moved to engage either of the others. The drive is either through the clutch parts 14, 16, or through a train of gears 14, 18, 19, 21, 15 and the clutch parts 15, 16. A chain running over sprockets may be utilized instead of the gears 19, 21, 15.
