Abstract

259,424. Hanman, F. Dec. 17, 1925. Lids; corner joints; battens, strengthening .-A trunk or bag of the kind made from fibre 1 covered with canvas 3 and reinforced bv woodwork 4 or metalwork is provided with a metal reinforcement 6 of channel section placed in the mouth of the trunk on the woodwork 4, its edge 7 being bent round a wire and the bend resting on the rim of the body. Another strip 9 of inverted U-section is placed over the upper edge of the woodwork 4 of the part 6, or, in an alternative, the parts 9 and 6 are made integral with each other. The corners are completed by a piece 12 fitting on the outside of the trunk and arranged to align with the part 6, and an inner piece 17 placed over a part 15 of the piece 12, the ends of the parts 9 being in some cases reduced as shown. The edge 2 of the lid fits in the groove of the part 6 and gives a waterproof joint which is not opened by warping. Specification 231,623 is referred to.
