Abstract

183,730. Wilkes, F. W. G., and Wilkes, O. F., (trading as Wilkes & Sons, T.). Aug. 27, 1921. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Lids and covers.-The edges of the body of a trunk &c. are formed with a channelled portion 1 to form a supporting shoulder 2 for a rubber packing 3 held between channel strips 5, 6. The lid has a flange 8 of folded metal situated below the beaded edge 9 and adapted to press into the packing when the lid is closed. The lid is hinged to the body by means of flaps 10, 11, the hinge joint 12 being disposed above the beaded edge 9 of the lid. In the act of closing the lid, the flange 8 at the rear edge first becomes embedded in the packing, then the side flanges and finally the front flange.
