Abstract

Back-pedalling brake and free-wheel arrangements.-In hub mechanism wherein the chain sprocket e engages a clamping ring g by means of a screw thread and is coupled to the wheel hub by means of conical friction surfaces d<1>, d, the outer friction surface d' is arranged within the chain sprocket itself and the sprocket is arranged between the hub cone d and a flange b on the hub. The nut c, screwed on to the hub, holds the several parts together, including a brake ring l which is held against rotation by an arm m and is formed with teeth i which engage resilient one way teeth on the screwed clamping ring g so as to prevent its backward rotation. A spring ring h tends frictionallv to resist relative rotation of the nut c and the ring g. During forward pedalling, the conical surfaces d, d<1> are engaged and the clamping ring g is moved to the left until it engages a shoulder n' on the part d. By back pedalling, the sprocket e and the ring g are forced apart so that the sprocket engages the flange b and the nut c engages the brake ring l.
