Abstract
29,118. Soc. les Fils de Peugeot FrÞres, and Gobiet, J. Dec. 30, 1910, [Convention date]. Brake mechanism.-In a free-wheel driving- dutch and rim-brake operating mechanism for the hubs of cycles, external ratchet teeth 2 upon the hub and internal ratchet teeth 24 upon an annular piece 23 within the chainwheel 26 face one another and are inclined in opposite directions so that a pawl 16, slidingly mounted in the chain-wheel, engages the hub teeth for driving, and on back-pedalling engages the internal teeth 24 for actuating the brake-rod 30. The pawl may have a tail-piece 19, and a spring may be arranged at one side of the pawl to bear against a washer 27 fitted in a groove 22 by means of an elastic split ring 28. Ball bearings 6, 8 are interposed between the chain-wheel and the hub and the annular piece 23.
