4809. Molson, W. Feb. 24. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Clutches, ratchet.-In a coaster hub for cycles &c. having a clutch member A actuated by a quick-pitch screw-threaded driving-member B upon which the chain-wheel is mounted, on forward-pedalling, the clutch is drawn to one side to engage its teeth a with teeth d upon the hub, and on back-pedalling, it is moved in the opposite direction to engage its teeth a<4> with a toothed brake-actuating ring F, a spring C being arranged between the clutch member and the end of the screw-threaded sleeve. The clutch is freely mounted upon the axle and has a sleeve portion a<3> to enter and support the hollow end of the driving-member, which in turn engages an internally screw-threaded recess a<2> in the clutch.
