Abstract

460,107. Coaster hubs. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. March 18, 1936, No. 8092. Convention date, March 18, 1935. [Class 136 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In a free-wheel hub with back - pedalling brake, the member by which the brake sleeve is expanded for braking is given both axial and turning movement and the pressure due respectively to the two movements is applied to the sleeve by a cone and by a device of the form of a roller ratchet clutch. The expanding member 12 for the split brakesleeve 16 has freely mounted upon it a cone 13. It has also inclined surfaces 14 between which and the sleeve 16 are disposed rollers 15 spaced by a cage 17. A light wire spring attached to the cage and to the member 12 urges the rollers to engaged position. The hub is driven by the member 7 through a roller ratchet 8 having a roller-spacing and retaining ring or cage 9, which has helical teeth 10 co-operating with corresponding teeth 11 on the member 12. In driving, the member 12 is carried round with the driver 7. Upon reversing it is turned reversely and at the same time moved axially by the teeth 10, 11 whereby expanding pressure is applied to the sleeve 16 both by the cone 13 and by the wedging action of the rollers 15. The interior surface of the sleeve 16 may be longitudinally grooved to ensure engagement of the rollers with the sleeve. A fixed cone 19 supports the sleeve at one end.
