Abstract

252,224. Laurie, A. P. Jan. 24, 1925. Compound or composite slabs.- A composite slab for walls, roofs, and ceilings, cornprises one or more sheets of asbestos board and one or more sheets of ground compressed cork cemented together by an asphalt cement. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which slabs comprising a sheet of ground compressed cork 1 enclosed between sheets 2, 3 of asbestos board are assembled between T-shaped wooden pillars or supports reinforced with a metal strip 6 and secured in position by nailing facing strips 5 to the main supports. In a modified form, the facing members 5 are formed integral with the T-shaped pillars to. produce an I-section, and the reinforcing strip 6 is not fastened to the pillars. In another form, a sheet of asbestos board is enclosed between two ground compressed cork sheets and the whole inserted in T-shaped metal pillars. At points where four walls meet, a pillar with slots 16, Fig. 4, on all four sides is employed. This pillar is preferably of metal, but if wood is employed, reinforcements similar to 6, Fig. 1, would be necessary in each of the four slots 16.
