Abstract

250,322. Merritt, F. B. Jan. 9, 1925. Spray carburettors - A carburettor of the kind embodying an atomizing and vapour expansion chamber as claimed i n Specification 173,563 is provided with a sleeve valve for controlling the air supply and with an exhaust or hotwater pipe for heating the mixture. Fuel from a float chamber a passes to a nozzle c movable, in known manner, by a rack d and pinion e. The air inlets g are controlled by ports i in a suction-actuated sleeve valve h which carries a tapered needle valve f for controlling the nozzle outlet. Above the chamber b containing the valve h is the atomizing and expansion chamber k with perforated plates l, the outlet from such chamber being controlled by a throttle valve n. The mixture may be heated by passing exhaust gases, or water from the radiator through a pipe o the lower end of which carries an adjustable stop p for the air valve h. The pipe may be of elbow or helical form and may be enclosed in a chamber. An adjustable air leak may be provided at q. According to the Provisional Specification, the sleeve is of cup form with lugs at its upper end supporting a choke ring, a central stem forming a shroud over the nozzle.
