Crystal detectors. - A micrometer scale on the fixed and adjustable sleeves s, t of the operating knob of a crystal detector enables contact to be re-established at any particularly sensitive spot. As the crystal is rotated the catswhisker contact n traces out a spiral path across the sensitive surface. The crystal is gripped between two claws b, c, the former being rotated and simultaneously traversed forward by a screwed shaft which engages with a block e. The claw c is revolubly mounted at g on a yoke arm h, guided in a straight-line movement by a rod i, and a pin k on the block e, a spring m forcing the yoke h and claw c into tight contact with the crystal. The catswhisker n is loosely fitted by a spring coil o on an arm q carried in a bearing r. The balancing of both crystal and catswhisker is such that they will remain set in any given position.
