Abstract
239,753. Thoumyre Fils, and Thoumyre, M. Dec. 15, 1924. Spray evaporators.-The volatile constituents of a liquid are separated by forcing the liquid by a pump b through a nozzle c into a long tube d along which a current of superheated steam is passed. The steam maintains the liquid in suspension and on issuing into an expansion chamber f the unvolatilized residue is deposited. The vapours passing from the chamber f are subjected to a fractional condensation. The tube c may open into the narrow part of a Venturi pipe in the tube d. In treating coal tar with steam at 160‹ C., a pitch such as is obtained by normal distillation at 300‹ C. results, and condensates consisting of anthracene oils, heavy oils, medium oils and light oils are obtained in the vessels g, h, i. j, respectively. The mixture. of pitch vapours from the tube d may be passed directly into powdered coal or a. mixture of coal and pitch to obtain a combustible mixture.
