Single-acting suction-valveless piston pumps; reciprocating-cylinder pumps ; suction reservoirs.- A pump for lubricants &c. adapted to operate at high or low pressure comprises a low-pressure cylinder 1 containing the lubricant and fitted with a piston 4 operated by a handle 5. For lowpreesure delivery, the piston is depressed to expel the lubricant through a cylinder 7 and a tubular piston 8 fitted with a dejivery valve 9. For highpressure work, the cylinder 1 is depressed, carrying the barrel 7 over the piston 8 so that lubricant enclosed in the barrel between the non-return valve 6 and the piston is forced through the conduit 8<a> and valve 9. In another form, the high-pressure barrel projects into the cylinder 1 and communicates therewith by ports which are closed by the piston 8 during high-pressure delivery. In the form shown in Fig. 2 low-pressure lubricant is forced by the piston 4 through a passage 14 in a plunger 13 carried by the cylinder 1, and then through the barrel 15 and passage 8<a> to the delivery valve 9. High-pressure lubricant is delivered by forcing down the cylinder 1 so that the plunger 13 enters the barrel 15. Specification 190,485, [Class 135, Valves &c.], is referred to.
