Magnetic instruments.-A magnet for use in a. telephone receiver is formed from a 1-shaped blank, which may be in the form either of a single steel stamping or of a rectangular stamping m, Fig. 1, to which end-pieces are welded at a and b, by first bending the end parts P to an L-shape to form the pole-pieces and then bending the part m to a semicircular shape, Fig. 3, to constitute the magnet proper, thus bringing the broad faces of the pole-pieces opposite to each other, while the parts P<1> between the pole-pieces and magnet proper project below the edge of the magnet proper as shown in Fig. 2.
