Electric clocks.-The pendulum a of an electric clock carries a brass plate b to which are fixed two horse-shoe magnets c and d of which the poles are reversed and the air-gap N to S or N<1> to S<1> is less than the distance between the magnets so that two vertical fluxes in opposite directions N to S and N<1> to S<1> cut a fixed flat coil e. In a modification, the two ends N and S<1> are joined so that the magnets form one member. Alternatively the magnets may be fixed and the coil e be carried on the pendulum.
