Abstract

236,680. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Young, A. P. April 17, 1924. Magnets for telephone and like instruments. Each pole-piece is constituted by a strip of magnetic material shaped to fit closely against opposite sides of the end of the permanent magnet and pressed thereon to ensure a firm connection. In one construction, Fig. 1, a flat strip of soft iron is bent to provide a U-shaped portion 13 fitting around the end, preferably roughened, of the magnet 13, preferably of cobalt steel, and an extension of one limb of the U is bent at right angles to provide the coil-receiving ends 12. The part 18 is preferably spaced from the magnet as shown. In another construction, Fig. 2, stampings, about 0.04 in. thick, are made with ends shaped as above and an integral connecting strip 19, and are riveted together in number sufficient to provide a suitable width of pole-piece. The whole is pressed firmly on to the ends of the magnet, whereupon the strips 19 are machined away- Specification 23938/14 is referred to.
