Crank chambers. - Hollow webs, supporting the intermediate bearings of the crankshaft of a multicylinder engine 1, have circumferential orifices 6 iybich allow the cranks and their balanceweights to draw air through a gauze filter 7 and the webs, and thus cool the crank chamber. This suction may be increased by connecting outlet air ports 8 to the air inlet of the carburettor by pipes 9. Passages 10 allow the oil level in the crank-chamber to be maintained.
