Abstract

352,348. Cleaning and heating air supply. WOLSELEY MOTORS (1927), Ltd. and BADEN, O., Drew's Lane, Ward End, Birmingham. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31505. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] An air cleaner and warmer comprises a casing 4 surrounding the engine cylinders between the water jacket 2 and crank chamber 3 and filled with aircleaning material 6. The interior 5 of the casing communicates with the air intake 10 of a carburetter 11. The casing may be made in two separate halves and clamped together by flanges. The air enters through holes in the casing at 8 and leaves through a wire gauze 12. The upper part of the crank case 3 has holes 13 to allow crank-case vapours to enter the engine. Upstanding U-shaped guards 14 prevent excess of oil from entering the cleaner. Additional passages between the crank case and the cleaner may be formed by external pipes. The casing may be unperforated and a gap left between its edge and the cylinder block, through which the air is drawn.
