Abstract

712,848. Two-stroke engines. LIST, H. Dec. 17, 1951 [Jan. 16, 1951], No. 29502/51. Classes 7(2), 7(3) and 7(5) In a two-stroke engine with cylinders 1 arranged in line and having combined wet and dry cylinder liners 2 and an engine casing 5, 6 that is symmetrically arranged on both sides of the cylinder line, when viewed in transverse crosssection, the casing encloses two spaces 3, 4 which extend along the cylinder line one on each side thereof, one space 3 serving as a scavenging air receiver and the other 4 as a cooling water space 4 surrounding the exhaust ports 11 in the engine casing, a scavenging air blower, such as a Roots, blower 8, being flanged directly on to the outer wall of the scavenging receiver. Air from the blower 8 passes into the wedge-shaped receiver 3 prior to entering the intake ports 12 whilst a fuel injection pump 13 and electric starter 14 are secured to the wall 5 above and below the blower 8, respectively. The other wedge-shaped space 4 is supplied with water by a pump 16 secured to the wall 6; the latter also supports an oil filler and dip-stick opening 15 and an exhaust pipe 10.
